Acrylic/polyester: are both synthetic fabrics with similar characteristics, but some differences.
Acrylic A man-made fabric that’s often used as a wool substitute. It’s strong, durable, and colourfast, but not very breathable. Acrylic is hydrophobic, which means it repels water, but it can cause bacteria growth, static electricity, and clinging. It’s flammable and can be difficult to extinguish. Acrylic is often used in warm weather clothing like sweatshirts and hoodies.
Polyester a durable fabric that’s resistant to UV radiation and moisture-wicking. It’s a popular choice for outdoor clothing and accessories, but it is not waterproof and can become sensitive to UV over time. Polyester is also not very breathable , which can make it uncomfortable to wear in hot and humid climates. Some people find it scratchy or clingy on the skin.
